If you’ve just looked at your American Airlines accounts, you’ve probably seen two figures: yards and fidelity points. Although Loyalty Points and American Airlines Premium yards are related, they are very different, and since Loyalty Points reset to zero on March 1 every month, it’s important to know the difference. But, here’s what you need to be aware of. United Airlines miles vs. Loyalty PointsWhen you log into your American Airlines account online or open the mobile app, you’ll see two important numbers: honor miles and Loyalty Points. American Airlines ‘ elite status and Loyalty Point Benefits are measured in terms of loyalty points, while prize yards are what you can use to purchase flights, updates, and chairs. This examine each one more closely. What is the purpose of American Airlines Premium becoming my most important benefits currency? When you credit paid planes on American Airlines and other partner flights ( including Oneworld alliance lovers like Alaska Airlines and British Airways ) to the Premium software, you earn award yards, also known as American yards or Premium miles. Additionally, you can use the AAdvantage eShopping site and take advantage of SimplyMiles shopping promotions to earn American miles. British miles can be used to purchase upgrades, chairs, and more. As long as you are the main cardmember of an active Amex credit cards, you are under the age of 21, or you earn or redeem yards on American or with an Premium partner at least once every 24 weeks, the km don’t reset to zero or disappear. What are Loyalty Points, and why do I think American Airlines yards are worth more than those earned by United Airlines and Delta Air Lines? On the other hand, Loyalty Points are the basis for earning Loyalty Point Rewards and American Airlines Elite Status. Some of the award miles you receive, but not all of them, gain Loyalty Points. Loyalty Points can also be earned on occasion through promotions, using a few Premium credit accounts, and exceeding certain investing or Loyalty Point thresholds. Loyalty Points are simply great for acquiring American Airlines aristocracy status and Loyalty Point Rewards because they cannot be exchanged for honor flights. As a reminder, Loyalty Point Benefits are additional benefits you receive as you work toward certain Loyalty Points throughout your certification time. During the wealthy qualification span of the airline, you must requalify for American Airlines ‘ wealthy standing each year and work toward receiving fresh Loyalty Point Rewards. American AAdvantage uses a March 1 through February 28 (or, in leap years, the calendar year qualification period used by most other programs ) time frame. Loyalty Points reset to zero every March 1, just as your Marriott elite night credits reset to zero on January 1 each year. How I made 29, 000 Loyalty Points and 23, 000 AAdvantage miles on a single$ 800 hotel stay However, your award miles, which you can use to purchase flights, won’t reset in that case. As long as your account is active, you’re under the age of 21, or you’re the primary cardholder on an AAdvantage credit card, you’ll keep your American Airlines miles. Readings that are related:
