Dakota seeks planning approval for Manchester Airport hotel

Dakota Hotels has announced its latest expansion plan, which has proposed the addition of a Manchester Airport property.

Following the success of Dakota’s Manchester city centre site, the new airport hotel will form part of the Mix Manchester development and has been designed by KPP Architects.

The hotel group has gone through a consultation process within the local community and has confirmed that a planning application has been submitted to Manchester City Council.

Dakota Manchester Airport will feature “excellent” transport links, with the M56 motorway, train station and Metrolink to be on its doorstep.

Guests at the 154-bedroom hotel will also benefit from “sophisticated” accommodation, a destination bar and brasserie-style grill, as well as 130 on-site parking spaces and an airport terminal shuttle.

Andrew Ovenstone, managing director of Dakota Hotels, said: “This is a significant moment for Dakota Hotels, and this airport expansion marks an exciting time for our team and guests alike.

“With routes covering four continents of the world and increasing numbers of passengers and flights year on year, Manchester Airport is a fast-growing global gateway to the North.”

He added: “We are looking forward to being part of the journey for the 28 million travellers that come through their doors – bringing our unique brand of luxury hospitality to the Airport hotel market.”

The Dakota Group has bold expansion plans, having recently announced the opening of Dakota Newcastle – their first property in the North East – in Spring 2025.

Subject to planning consent, Dakota Manchester Airport hopes to open its doors within 2026.
