Ennismore repurposes Grade II-listed landmark for Hyde’s UK debut

Hyde Hotels has announced that its first UK-based property, Hyde London City, will open in September 2024.

Finding home in Grade II listed landmark in the heart of historic Old Bailey, Hyde London City will be set across seven storeys, boasting 111 guestrooms, a modern Turkish restaurant Leydi serving up Lokanta-style hospitality, as well as an intimate subterranean cocktail bar featuring a design that nods to Hyde’s origins on the LA club scene.

The interiors of the hotel will reflect the architectural heritage of the 19th-century building amalgamated with Hyde’s signature West Coast flair. References as diverse as Darwin’s seminal work and the discovery of the kaleidoscope add vibrancy and interest to the alternately green- and blue-framed guestrooms, while classic Hyde touchpoints like dressing gowns inspired by surf ponchos and beach sliders illicit relaxation. Set in the eaves of the building with a 5m high ceiling, the hotel’s Headliner Suite looks to botanical motifs to inform its style, setting the scene for a convivial spot, with its marble-topped bar and views over London’s rooftops.

On the ground floor, Leydi, the modern Turkish restaurant will bring the flavours and all-day food culture of Istanbul to the UK capital. Leydi will plate up meze, home-baked pide, and Mangal-grilled meat and fish to be enjoyed family-style and washed down by free-flowing Raki. Warm and textured interior design adds to the mellow vibe, where intimate window tables offer guests full immersion into London’s city life.

As the night draws in, locals and guests alike can head underground to Black Lacquer, an intimate cocktail bar where global music is celebrated. Clean serves and a pitched menu of small, Tokyo-inspired plates will be set against a daily-changing soundtrack driven by the curated display of vinyl that forms part of the interior scheme.
