According to the results of a popular poll released today, French citizens have very strong concerns about the possibility of a terrorist attack in the upcoming weeks or months. The survey, conducted shortly after a recent massacre in a crowded music hall near Moscow, and just a few months ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has highlighted significant apprehension about a potential terrorist onslaught. The average fear rating among those interviewed was 7 out of 10, with 0 indicating minimal fear and 10 representing extreme fear.
The survey was conducted on March 26 and 27 and involved 1,013 individuals aged 18 and above. The results revealed a significant disparity in vigilance levels between genders. According to the data, women exhibited a higher level of concern regarding the potential threat of a terrorist attack, scoring an average of 7.3 compared to the 6.7 scored by men.
Analysis by age group revealed that French youth, particularly those under the age of 35, are the most affected by anxiety on the issue. People aged 35 to 49 seem to be less concerned, while fear increases slightly among adults over 50.
French young individuals, specifically those below 35 years old, experience the highest levels of anxiety regarding this matter. Concern among individuals aged 35 to 49 appears to be lower, but it slightly rises among adults aged 50 and above.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented in France since January 2015 when a series of terrorist attacks resulted in the death of 17 individuals in Paris and its surrounding areas. In November of the same year, France experienced one of its most devastating Islamist attacks as suicide bombers and gunmen targeted a concert hall, a prominent stadium, as well as various restaurants and bars in Paris, claiming the lives of 130 individuals.
After the terrorist attack in Russia last Friday, resulting in the loss of 143 lives, France elevated its terrorism alert level to the highest point throughout the entire country.
