Gold Coast Cheshire Cat Motel transformed through nostalgic ‘70s lens

A 1960s motel on the Gold Coast has been reinvented, with The Cheshire Cat Motel now officially open to guests.

Run by locals, The Cat is an ode to the spirit of the neighborhood that surrounds it, including the nearby Palm Beach. Embracing the trend of retro-revamped motels, the transformed property oozes nostalgia with a ’70s Australiana-meets-Palm Springs twist.

Comprising seven rooms – including a two-bedroom bungalow – the contactless boutique accommodation experience is spearheaded by husband and wife duo Matty Roberts and Monique Luchterhand, who grew up in the area. Guestrooms are complete with vintage-style upholstery, warm tones of rust and sage green, contemporary artwork and touches of greenery throughout.

A magnesium plunge pool and pool deck are available to all in-house guests, adorned with palm trees and terracotta surfaces.
