The Hajj is a five-day pilgrimage in the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Dhul-Hijjah, which is from June 14 to June 19 this year. It takes place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This year’s unusually high temperature of 51.8 degrees Celcius (125 Fahrenheit) resulted in close to 1000 fatalities among travelers performing this ritual outside under the sun.
