The airline confirmed the death at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) on May 29, 2024.
Unknown Person “Ended Up in a Running Aircraft Engine”
According to the airline, the incident happened involving the aircraft operating KLM Flight 1341. FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft was a KLM CityHopper Embraer ERJ-190, departing Schiphol for Billund Airport (BLL) in Denmark.
Without releasing any details about the victim, the airline says the fatal incident happened “a person ended up in a running aircraft engine.” CBS News reports the aircraft was boarded and preparing for taxi towards the runway.
The flight was disembarked, and the airline says they provided care for the airline passengers and employees who witnessed the incident. KLM deferred further questions to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, who are investigating the accident.
Very little is known about the person killed in the incident. Authorities have not released the person’s name, gender, or if they were a passenger, airport, employee, or otherwise.
The aircraft was ultimately allowed to depart by 8:36 p.m. local time – five hours after the originally scheduled departure.
