Q&A: Amtico talks new launches, old favourites and respecting nature

Following the expansion of its Form collection, Alex Gordon, National Account Manager at Amtico, tells all on what makes the range stand out.

What are the defining design characteristics of Form?

The range is inspired by nature, with the durability of a luxury vinyl tile. With careful attention to every grain, knot and natural tone, Form’s commitment to respectfully replicating real woods and stones can be used to create an organic authenticity in any commercial space. It draws on the textures and tones of organic wood and stone, and it can be specified in an array of laying patterns.

How does this reflect wider market trends?

In response to the evolving trends in the real wood market, we are witnessing a shift in rustic styles – moving away from worn and treated finishes towards a more sophisticated, high-grade aged aesthetic where distinctive knots and cracks feature.

In this collection, classic, characterful Oaks display authentic knots, rich colour variation and lively tones. They come in various shades, from washed warm greys to deep, rich tones. The Saltus Oak palette for example showcases prominent knots, distinct cracks and a robust oak grain pattern, preserving the authenticity of real oak. We deliberately kept these features intact to maintain the genuine charm of oak. The colours transition from drier, Scandi-inspired tones to mid-tones and richer, oiled hues, offering a spectrum of captivating options.

Form has recently expanded, tell us about that?

The collection has been enhanced by 20 new additions – 18 Woods and two Stone – as well as two new laying patterns. The new Woods are all oaks of varying grain styles and knot features, and they’re realistic with a hand-crafted feel.

Why is the collection well-suited to hospitality environments?

It has a 12-year commercial warranty, able to stand up to everyday wear and tear, even in heavy commercial environments, and has a 0.7mm wear layer for higher durability. There’s also added protection against bacteria and viruses, as there is an ionic silver additive within the urethane coating, creating a hygienic surface where bacteria struggle to survive. Finally, the collection can be specified with Amtico Acoustic, which reduces impact sound transmission by up to 19dB and also provides an extra level of comfort underfoot.

And what about sustainability credentials?

Form is also available to specify with Amtico Bio – the brand’s first bio-attributed LVT flooring, which is made with renewable biomass from sustainably-managed forests and used cooking oils. Using sustainable PVC that produces over 90% less CO2 during its manufacture, Amtico Bio offers the same performance and finish as standard LVT planks and tiles but with a reduced carbon footprint.
