Singapore Police Arrest Man for Alleged In-Flight Theft

A Chinese man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over S$107,000 (US$80,000) in cash from a passenger’s bag on a Singapore Airlines flight from Hong Kong, according to the Singapore Police Force.

The victim discovered the missing money upon landing at Changi Airport and reported the incident to the authorities.

Police used flight records to identify the suspect, 54-year-old Peng Hui.

Authorities found Mr. Hui in possession of a significant amount of cash in various denominations and currencies, totaling S$79,662 (US$59628.60).

Additionally, they discovered and halted four remittance transactions believed to be part of the stolen funds, amounting to S$37,897(US$28366.66).

Mr. Hui is expected to face theft charges in court.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to three years in jail, fined, or both, according to Singaporean law.

This incident follows a similar case in January, where another Chinese national received an eight-month jail sentence for stealing from passengers on a Scoot flight.
