Tauck, a leader in luxury river cruising, has announced exciting plans to expand its award-winning fleet with two stunning new riverboats—the MS Serene and MS Lumiere. Scheduled to launch in 2026, these vessels will bring innovation, elegance, and a touch of regional inspiration to Tauck’s European itineraries, sailing along the River Seine and Rhone River in France. The Stories Behind the NamesSelected from over 1,000 suggestions submitted by travel advisors, guests, and employees, the names of these new ships reflect the very essence of the rivers they will navigate. Tauck CEO, Jennifer Tombaugh, shared the thoughtful reasoning behind the choices:

  • MS Serene: Perfectly named for its tranquil journeys along the Seine, this title evokes peace, rejuvenation, and the calming flow of the river that has inspired generations of Impressionist artists like Monet and Renoir.
  • MS Lumiere: A celebration of light, discovery, and creativity, Lumiere captures the livelier character of the Rhone. The name also pays homage to Lyon’s illustrious Festival Lumiere, honouring the pioneering Lumiere brothers and the city’s celebrated Festival of Lights each December.

A Sneak Peek at the ShipsWith the release of the first artist renderings, travellers can get a glimpse of the remarkable designs awaiting aboard the MS Serene and MS Lumiere. Highlights include:

  • The Sun Deck: Both ships feature a beautifully appointed Sun Deck complete with a swimming pool, shaded day beds, a full-service bar, and alfresco dining options. It’s the perfect spot for a glass of wine while enjoying sweeping river views.
  • The Wellness Area – The Retreat: Elevated to the Diamond Deck, this serene space features floor-to-ceiling windows, a fitness centre, massage treatment room, and lounge area with a coffee/juice bar. Natural light and breathtaking river views create the ultimate wellness retreat.
  • Luxurious Category 5 Suites: Spacious and airy, these 300-square-foot accommodations come with French balconies, king-size beds positioned for countryside views, and sophisticated interiors designed for relaxation and comfort.

With a capacity of 124 guests on the MS Serene and 130 on the MS Lumiere, these boutique-sized ships offer a mix of spacious cabins and suites. Notably, 80% of the cabins are 225 square feet or larger, including Tauck’s popular Category 1 cabins—20% larger than on other riverboats and with no single supplements.New Adventures AwaitThe MS Serene will debut on two itineraries, including the family-friendly Family Fun Along the Seine: Paris to Normandy and the newly introduced Bordeaux, Paris & The Seine. This 11-day journey begins with an in-depth exploration of Bordeaux, including three nights at the InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hotel, before boarding the MS Serene for a seven-night cruise along the Seine.Guests on this new itinerary can expect highlights such as:

  • A day of exploration at the D-Day Beaches of Normandy.
  • Guided visits to Rouen and the charming village of Les Andelys.
  • An exclusive early morning visit to Claude Monet’s Giverny estate.
  • A Tauck-exclusive reception and dinner at the 16th-century Chateau du Taillis.
  • Immersive regional tastings at a family farm in Tilly, featuring cider, Calvados, and pate.

Elevating the River Cruise ExperienceDavid Clark, Managing Director of Tauck Australia, believes these ships will be particularly popular with Australian travellers. “The MS Serene and MS Lumiere are exceptional additions to our fleet, offering luxurious features and thoughtfully crafted itineraries. I’m confident our Australian guests will love these new experiences.”
With all-inclusive pricing, Tauck ensures every detail is taken care of, from shore excursions and gratuities to airport transfers and onboard beverages—including wine, beer, and spirits. The MS Serene and MS Lumiere promise a seamless and memorable journey for every guest.
As anticipation builds for their maiden voyages, Tauck continues to redefine what it means to cruise Europe’s rivers in comfort and style. For travellers seeking serenity, inspiration, and discovery, these new riverboats offer the perfect escape.
