THDP has been appointed to lead the transformation of the Dom Pedro Vilamoura Hotel into the new Hyatt Regency Vilamoura.
The property, set to be managed by Details, is scheduled for completion in 2026. Located in Portugal’s Algarve region, it has been envisioned to blend contemporary sophistication with the area’s rich cultural heritage.
London-based THDP is leading on the interior design and visual concept, collaborating with Washington DC-based Streetsense for the strategic repositioning of all F&B outlets. The first phase of improvements is expected to be completed by late summer 2025, with the full rebranding to Hyatt Regency scheduled for early 2026.
THDP’s vision for Hyatt Regency Vilamoura is inspired by Portugal’s artisanal traditions, the Algarve’s natural landscape, and the region’s distinctive architecture. Incorporating handcrafted azulejo tiles, woven natural textures and a palette of warm, earthy tones, the design evokes an authentic sense of place while delivering a modern and sophisticated feel.
“Hyatt Regency Vilamoura represents a dialogue between modernity and tradition – a space where guests feel connected to their surroundings while indulging in contemporary luxury,” says Nicholas Hickson, co-founder of THDP and lead designer on the project. “Our design captures the essence of the Algarve – its light, its textures and its spirit of hospitality.”
The transformation will include the property’s guestrooms and suites, which feature a design scheme centred around natural wood finishes, soft upholstery and a colour palette of ocean blues and sandy neutrals. Additional key design elements include handwoven raffia headboards, Portuguese ceramic accents and bespoke lighting fixtures.
Elsewhere, the lobby has been overhauled, complete with a central bar whose biophillic design elements and curated artworks have been selected to create a vibrant hub. Dining and social spaces have been revitalised in partnership with Streetsense, spanning an octagonal terrace bar, interactive cooking stations and an al fresco dining concept that celebrates Algarve’s culinary heritage.
Lush outdoor spaces and wellness facilities meanwhile include expanded fitness and spa amenities, a pool deck and tranquil landscaped gardens intended to connect guests with nature.
