Caribbean: Luxury boutique hotel The Potlatch Club has reopened on the island of Eleuthera following a seven-year renovation.

Owners Bruce Loshusan and Hans Febles acquired the dilapidated property in 2016. The property fell into disrepair in the 1980s.

In the 1960s and 70s, The Potlatch Club was popular with socialites, hosting Greta Garbo, Richard Widmark, Raymond Burr, and Rita Gam. In 1969, Paul McCartney honeymooned at the hotel with his first wife Linda.

During the renovation, four original buildings were saved at the hotel, which is set in 12 acres of landscaped gardens and which fronts a seven mile stretch of beach. Nassau-based interior designer Amanda Lindroth led the redesign.

The accommodation features a mix of historic and newly built suites (three), cottages (three), ocean-facing cottages (three), and the one-bed Pink Sands House and four-bed Pineapple House villas.

Amenities include The Fig Tree restaurant which overlooks the hotel’s pool, the Pavilion Bar, and a spa with two treatment rooms.

The Potlatch Club has also curated three itineraries for guests:

• On the Water – a private boat charter with activities including swimming with turtles, snorkelling trips , waterside picnics and fishing.

• The Beaches of Eleuthera – a tour of the island’s beaches with a picnic lunch or visit to a local restaurant.

• A Visit to Harbour Island – a resort located on the northeast coast of Eleuthera, which offers shops, bars and restaurants.

General manager Kezang Dorji will oversee The Potlatch Club. Previously, he was part of the opening team at Parrot Cay by Como, and also served as general manager at La Bougainvillea and head of F&B at The Cove on Eleuthera.
