Virgin Hotels will open its first London location on 1 August in Shoreditch, marking its eighth global site and the 17th in the Virgin Hotels Collection. This follows recent openings in Edinburgh and New York and an announcement of a new property in Kenya. The London hotel, located at 45 Curtain Road, is part of a long-term agreement with Reuben Brothers. Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Group’s founder, expressed excitement about bringing the Virgin experience to London, aiming to extend the unique customer service that Virgin Atlantic passengers enjoy. CEO James Bermingham highlighted this launch as a significant milestone for the company’s 10th anniversary.

Zeal Hotels has appointed Barnaby Kean as the new general manager of the Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, a 142-bedroom, four-star property set to open in January 2025. Previously with Klarent Hospitality, Kean has extensive experience with IHG brands. The hotel, under construction, will be operated by Valor Hospitality and will be IHG’s first net zero carbon hotel, achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating. Kean and managing director Tim Wheeldon emphasised the hotel’s sustainability, including 50% less carbon in construction, 100% electric operation, and solar panels that generate excess energy.

The Quay Hotel and Spa in Deganwy Marina, Conwy, has unveiled a new 580 sq m destination spa following a £1m renovation. The spa features a wellness thermal area with a swimming pool, vitality pool, day beds, and heated seats. It includes a Himalayan salt sauna, infrared sauna, aromatic steam room, traditional sauna, experience shower, and foot bath area. Additionally, there’s a new spa café and eight treatment rooms offering Oskia face and body treatments. The renovation has allowed the hotel to hire more staff and apprentices, enhancing local career opportunities. General manager Brid Adams highlighted the spa’s serene environment and its contribution to a complete luxury experience.
