Gillian Mylles has been appointed as the new general manager of The Resident Edinburgh ahead of its opening. The hotel, featuring 164 rooms, underwent redevelopment from a 1960s establishment into a modern property. Operated by Resident Hotels, this Upper Upscale hotel is the sixth within the group’s portfolio. Mylles, with extensive experience in leading hotel groups in the UK, expressed excitement about the hotel’s focus on guest experience and sustainability. David JM Orr, CEO of Resident Hotels, emphasised Mylles’ talent and track record, foreseeing the hotel’s establishment as one of the most sought-after in Edinburgh.
CBRE is facilitating the sale of Slieve Russell Hotel Golf and Country Club for an estimated €35m (£30m). The hotel, set on 300 acres, boasts 224 bedrooms and extensive leisure facilities, including a renowned PGA Championship golf course and the Ciúin Spa. Considerable capital investment has maintained the property in excellent condition. Paul Collins, head of CBRE Hotels Ireland, highlighted the rare opportunity to acquire one of Ireland’s best-known resort hotels, appealing to national and international investors.
Gleneagles has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, committing to reduce emissions across its operations and value chain. Collaborating with the Carbon Trust, the hotel plans to establish a baseline and implement projects to meet reduction targets. Recent initiatives include installing an irrigation system to enhance efficiency and partnering with Forth Rivers Consulting to support biodiversity. Conor O’Leary, managing director, stressed the hotel’s responsibility in protecting the environment for future generations.
Hilton reported strong financial results for Q1, with revenues of $2.57bn (£2.06bn) surpassing expectations. Adjusted EBITDA stood at $750m (£603m), and net income reached $268m (£216m). The company raised its full-year guidance, projecting a 2-4% increase in system-wide RevPAR compared to 2023. Hilton’s development pipeline expanded, with plans to acquire Graduate Hotels and a controlling interest in the Sydell Group, signalling expansion into the luxury lifestyle space.
