Nanimarquina pays tribute to Eduardo Chillida with new collection

Nanimarquina has unveiled Chillida, a new collection that pays homage to designer Eduardo Chillida.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the designer’s birth, and ten years since the brand’s first tribute to Chillida, it has revealed four new pieces inspired by the designer’s ‘Gravitaciones’ series and an extract from his book ‘Preguntas’.

Renowned for his work with steel and concrete, Chillida’s lesser-known work comprises an extensive body of drawings, as well as Gravitations. The series of collages sees the designer suspending different types of paper, overlapping pieces to create an interplay of light and shadow.

This technique inspired Nanimarquina in the creation of its new designs. By playing with craft techniques such as hand knotting, Soumak and hand tufting, as well as with fibres, wool and silk, the new collection captures the suspension that Chillida spotlighted in his work.

The range comprises three rugs and one tapestry, each embodying the Nanimarquina philosophy of designing and making highly individual, contemporary products.
